Latest Humankind Trailer Showcases the 4x Strategy Game’s Scale, Variety, & Customization

Humankind is about a week and a half away, and Amplitude Studios and Sega are ratcheting up the marketing and hype before the big release. The game’s latest trailer titled: The Scale of Humankind, is aimed directly at showing off how different each game can be.

The trailer touts 60 historical cultures and over 1 million unique civilizations. I’m not a Humankind expert, so I’m not entirely sure how it gets to 1 million unique civilizations, but I have to imagine that is achieved through customization tweaks of some kind.

Humankind is going to have 129 different units, ten different terrain/biomes, 45 different animals, 93 researchable technologies, and lots of customization options for your leader.

The upcoming 4X strategy game draws a lot of comparisons to Civilization as Humankind, visually, looks very similar to one another and they both occupy the same genre. However, after going hands-on with Humankind, there are definitely some key differences that can be gleaned out, such as your culture/civilization evolving more organically (rather than locking yourself into one, and some unique gameplay features such as actually having to hunt for your food early on.

Strategy game buffs on PC will be able to see for themselves when Humankind releases on Aug. 17
