Injustice 2 Will Probably Have Guest Characters, Ed Boon Explains How They’re Included

With Special Guest Star...
This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

In their past three games–Mortal Kombat 2011, Injustice: Gods Among Us, and Mortal Kombat X–guest characters eventually became a part of the roster. MK 2K11 had Kratos and Freddy Krueger, Injustice had MK’s Scorpion, and MKX had horror movie icons Leatherface, Predator, Jason Voorhees, and the Alien. Injustice 2 may also see the inclusion of guest characters. While speaking with Game Informer, Netherrealm’s Ed Boon said that he “would be surprised if we didn’t do any of that” for the sequel. It makes sense, given that Scorpion was the most downloaded character in Injustice and Alien and Predator took the crown in MKX. Currently, however, Boon doesn’t list any possibilities for who could join the superhero brawler.

Boon also went into how the studio chooses their guest characters. Sometimes it’s simply just by suggestion, other times, fan feedback and the availability of characters come into play. “just hearing some very loud, insistent people saying what they want,” says Boon. “Obviously we can’t just choose what we want to do…You have to do something that can be accommodated as far the company. So there are a number of variables, including what the players have been asking for. We’re always listening to feedback.”

Injustice 2 comes to the PS4, PC, and Xbox One next year. What guest character would you want to join the sequel? Let us know in the comments below.
