The Fortnite 10.40 update has just gone live in the game, and Epic Games has just shared the official patch notes as the server downtime comes to an end. The main headline here, among matchmaking and aim sensitivity and control improvements is the addition of Starry Suburbs to the map, which brings players the chance to get their hands on a “never-before-seen” weapon.
The patch notes, make reference to the introduction of The Combine — a new, gauntlet-esque playlist to help players get used to new control settings and aim assists — as well as the improved Matchmaking log being introduced to core modes that should see players matched up with others of similar skill.
However, the main take away in terms of gameplay here is the introduction of Starry Suburbs. This neighborhood near Pleasant Park has been revitalized thanks to the Rift Zone and shooting stars often land here. If players crack open a star, they can get powerful weapons and other items.
The big prize though is the “never-before-seen” weapon teased in the patch notes. There’s no other mention of a new weapon being added within the notes, so right now your guess is as good as ours.
Fortnite’s 10.40 update will also see the return of the Bouncer trap item. It’ll drop in stacks of three from Supply Drops, Vending Machines, Llamas and Floor Loot. The Batman Grapnel Gun and Explosive Batarang items have also been enabled in Arena and Tournament playlists.
Finally, players can enjoy a double XP weekend starting this Friday, Sept. 27 at 9AM ET, through until Monday, Sept. 30 at 9AM ET.
