Charles Martinet with Mario

Charles Martinet Awarded Guinness World Record for 100th Role as Mario

The release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on December 7th marked Charles Martinet’s 100th performance as Nintendo’s beloved ex-ex-plumber, and what better title is there to meet such a milestone with? On Martinet’s own, quite deliciously whimsical Instagram account, the man responsible for every “WAH” and “Let’s-a go!” revealed his accolade with palpable joy.

The voice behind Mario has become a sort of celebrity in his own right among gamers, attending expos globally as well as game launch events and even appearing as a playable character in indie title Runner 3 – such is the mystique of Martinet.

Charles Martinet Guinness World Record
Just look at that face.

Having voiced Mario for over two decades alongside Luigi, their baby counterparts, Wario, Waluigi, Toadsworth, and somehow more, he’s even found time to voice dragon Paarthurnax of Skyrim fame; worlds and once consoles away from the Mushroom Kingdom.

63-year-old Charles Martinet continues to pour life into one of gaming’s most iconic mascots as he has done for over a hundred titles across myriad platforms, his Guinness World Record not likely to be snatched away anytime soon.

It’s an incredible achievement on all accounts, but to enter triple figures for one of gaming’s most iconic roles upon the release of what is easily Nintendo’s most ambitious Smash title to date, makes it all the more poignant.
