Blizzard CFO Amrita Ahuja Leaves for CFO Position at Square

In the same week that Activision Blizzard fired former CFO Spencer Neumann, Blizzard Entertainment CFO Amrita Ahuja has left the company for a position at Square.

Ahuja held numerous finance-related positions at Activision Blizzard during her eight years with the company. She’ll replace former Square CFO Sarah Friar, who stunned investors when she announced that she was leaving the company for Nextdoor.

Square’s CEO, Jack Dorsey, said in a statement about Ahuja, “In Amrita, we have found an amazing, multidimensional business leader. Amrita brings the ability to consider and balance opportunities across our entire business, and she will help strengthen our discipline as we invest, build, and scale. She is willing to challenge herself and others, has the courage to take principled risks, and is passionate about our customers and our purpose.”

Ahuja will immediately be put to the test after Square’s shares have plummeted 30 percent since Sarah Friar announced her exit in Oct. 2018. Ahuja was scouted during Square’s search for Board of Directors due to her experience and entrepreneurial talents, Dorsey told CNBC.

This comes just days after Spencer Neumann was poached from Activision Blizzard by Netflix to fill its CFO position. Blizzard Entertainment, where Ahuja previously worked, is a division of Activision Blizzard. The company has been experiencing poor shares performance ever since the recent BlizzCon, where Diablo Immortal was received poorly.
