Having technical trouble with Fallout 4’s latest expansion, Far Harbor, on the PlayStation 4? You may need to completely re-download the content, as Bethesda Game Studios have released an updated version of the expansion onto the PlayStation Store.
The re-release was a response to the poor frame-rate that players were experiencing specifically on Sony’s current-gen console.
According to Digital Foundry, Far Harbor ran at an average of around 20 frames per second in outdoor areas and could even sink as low as 15 fps, supposedly as a result of the new fog effects in the Far Harbor area. On the Xbox One, comparatively, Far Harbor runs at roughly 20 to 30 fps.
Bethesda posted a guide to re-installing Far Harbor on their forums, which reads as follows:
- Confirm Fallout 4 is not running. Highlight Fallout 4 in your PS4 dashboard, press OPTIONS, and select CLOSE APPLICATION to ensure Fallout 4 is not running minimized.
- Select RELATED ITEMS. You’ll find this under the Fallout 4 icon in the PS4 dashboard.
- Select MY ADD-ONS.
- Navigate to the DOWNLOAD ARROW next to Far Harbor and select it.
- You should see a notice that Far Harbor has been Added to Downloads.
- Wait for the downloadable content to finish downloading and installing before starting Fallout 4.
Failing that, Bethesda suggests you may just have to delete all of Fallout 4 and re-install it entirely, including the add-ons from scratch.
