How to Recharge Your Devil Trigger in Devil May Cry 5

If you are familiar with the Devil May Cry series, chances are you are familiar with the Devil Trigger system. For those new to the series, this is a sort of overcharged state that demons and demonic hybrids can enter to unleash the full extent of their power. Here’s how to recharge your Devil Trigger in Devil May Cry 5.

In gameplay terms, this is a kind of fury mode that will up your attack power and movement speed, while simultaneously restoring vitality. All characters will be able to use their Trigger at various points throughout the course of the game, and in general, it is gained simply by attacking enemies and taking damage.

Character Specific Devil Triggers

Specific characters have unique ways to recharge their respective Devil Trigger gauges. For example, the enigmatic V charges his gauge by simply reading his book. This is done by holding down R2 or RT, depending on which console you are playing

While this will steadily increase his gauge, it will also leave him incredibly vulnerable as it will decrease his movement speed. This should be used sparingly, and when you have a moments respite.

Meanwhile, Dante actually has two different Triggers. He has the regular kind which is charged by inflicting and taking damage, or by collecting white orbs, but he also has access to a more powerful Sin Devil Trigger.

To charge the Sin version you’ll need to hold down LB (L1), which will then transfer everything in your regular Devil Trigger gauge into your Sin gauge. Once the Sin gauge is full, simply hold down LB (L1) again until the gauge fills up yellow, then release it, and Dante will enter Sin mode.

Nero will also gain access to Devil Trigger late in the game, but we won’t say how or when to avoid spoilers. His works exactly the same as Dante’s, just without the whole Sin thing.

That’s all you need to know about how to recharge Devil Trigger in Devil May Cry 5. For more on DMC5, be sure to check out our Devil May Cry 5 wiki for other guide articles, like which edition you should pick up, or the games final pre-release trailer.
