1. Anthem

Anthem, BioWare’s next big project, is shaping up to be one of the biggest co-op action games of 2019. There are tons of savage beasts and enemies to fight using customizable suits known as Javelins that grant superhuman abilities and come equipped with deadly weapons. Taking up the role of a Freelancer, you can explore a large, shared world with up to three other players, forming a squad that tackles raids and other intense missions.

2. Crackdown 3

After years of delay, Crackdown 3 is finally coming to the Xbox One later this year. It won’t be too long now before players can team up and take over the city of New Providence. Crackdown 3 features tons of weapons you can use to attack bosses and Kingpins controlling the city, and you’ll even be rewarded with more skills, explosives, and other tools of destruction for landing skillful kills. Not to mention there’s also a competitive multiplayer mode that has players racing to destroy the entire city. If you’re looking for some co-op mayhem, you can’t get any further than this.

3. The Blackout Club

We’ve already gotten a sneak peek at what The Blackout Club has to offer thanks to Early Access, but we’ll be getting tons of more surprises once the game launches later this 2019. Described as a horror co-op game, the game revolves around a group of teens who investigate the cause of these mysterious blackouts. Using all sorts of gadgets, you and your crew have to explore procedurally-generated maps and outwit the monsters causing the mysterious phenomena.

4. Yoshi’s Crafted World

Yoshi’s latest adventure is coming to the Nintendo Switch, bringing along a colorful world made out of scraps. This platforming adventure contains the classic Yoshi formula, letting players gobble up enemies and throw them out as eggs. There’s also a new feature that lets players see the other side of the map, opening up new perspectives and revealing hidden secrets not seen otherwise. You can also play through the campaign with its co-op multiplayer by simply sharing the Joy-Con.

5. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition

The classic Gamecube adventure is getting the remastered treatment, as Square Enix is bringing back Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch this 2019. Up to four players can team up and embark on a grand adventure on the search for materials called “Myrrh” used to fuel crystals that protect settlements. This updated version will include online co-op play, so you aren’t limited to playing locally, unlike the original Gamecube game. This without a doubt looks set to be one of the best co-op games to look forward to in 2019.

6. Dragon Quest Builders 2

The sequel to the Dragon Quest spin-off game is packed with some new surprises and mechanics, including a completely new story set before Dragon Quest 2. Your duties here remain fairly the same, as your character earns the title of Master Builder and must overcome all sorts of trials by, well, building. Some of the original elements have been refined by adding more possible floors to build, the ability to swim and glide, more areas to explore, and creating diagonal blocks. Not to mention you can also play with up to three other players in a single world in both online and local co-op.

7. Code Vein

Known as the anime of Dark Souls, Code Vein offers a gruesome challenge for those looking for a new action-adventure game to play. The game will also come with a completely new co-op mode called Babel that has players working together to avoid obstacles and scale the tower.

9. Dauntless

This free-to-play action game is all about hunting large, ferocious monsters with a variety of different equipment. Dauntless takes some inspiration from other hunting games, such as the Monster Hunter series, and puts its own spin on it. Players can pull off different attacks and chain them together with the combo system. Hunts are taxing and can take up plenty of time, but you can join up with other hunters for some co-op gameplay and get things done faster.

10. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order

11. Gears 5

Gears 5 is the next entry in the Gears of War series, slated to come to this Xbox One this 2019. Two teams of four players must cooperate to carry out long, challenging objectives that require every bit of teamwork. There’s also a mysterious new PvP mode called the Dark Zone, which is actually an in-game area that’s been quarantined due to its sheer toxicity.

13. Degrees of Separation

Those looking for an interesting spin on puzzle platformers this 2019 will definitely want to look into Degrees of Separation. The game follows two souls named Rime and Ember who control powers of both frost and flame respectively. Despite their affections, both of them are separated by a mysterious force. Degrees of Separation offers non-linear levels where up to two players must make the most out of Rime and Ember’s powers to overcome all sorts of obstacles. Add on this game’s gorgeous art direction, and you have yourself a promising co-op game coming later this year.

14. Skull & Bones

Skull & Bones is another foray into the growing pirate genre in video games. While last year’s Sea of Thieves favored exploration, this seafaring adventure is all about piracy and naval warfare. Skull & Bones is set in an open world environment where players create their own captain who can sail alone or recruit a crew for some co-op fun. You can engage in tactical combat against other players in the open seas, using mortars, cannons, rockets, or just smashing their ship head-on with yours.
