No matter what, you’ll have plenty of places to put your cash, too many really. Here are our picks for the best PS4 games to have on your radar in October 2018.
Best PS4 Games to Have on Your Radar in October 2018
Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise
Fist of the North Star is one of the longest running anime and manga series out there, dating all the way back to 1983. It served as a huge inspiration for action and battle anime, and that inspiration has even seeped into other mediums like video games. That brings us to Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise, a original game with an original story, developed by the studio behind Yakuza.
Lost Paradise stars series’ protagonist Kenshiro, as he discovers a haven in the wasteland, the city named Eden. The game combines the absurd action and gameplay stylings of Yakuza, with the characters and aesthetic of Fist of the North Star. While the game uses the series’ iconic characters, it creates new situations and storylines for them. During our preview of the game at E3, we found it to be a brilliant blend of the two series, with some wacky situations and humor you’d expect from Yakuza. Fist of the North Star has had plenty of video games in the past, but Lost Paradise looks like it could easily be the best one yet, and one of the best PS4 games of October 2018.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
After taking a year off, Assassin’s Creed came back in style with Origins in 2017. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey follows up on Origins, using the same RPG systems as a basis, while adding in even more player choice and freedom. For the very first time, you’ll be able to choose your character’s gender, playing as either Alexios or Cassandra, a mercenary in Ancient Greece. There’s a much larger emphasis on choices in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and there are even romance options you’ll be able to choose from.
A new system known as “Active Abilities” lets you assign a number of close range and long range attacks to use directly in battle. You’ll be able to mix and match these as you see fit. Naval combat also makes a much larger return than in Origins, with the option to recruit different NPCs as ship lieutenants.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is more like an iteration on Origins, rather than a brand new experience. However, the gorgeous islands of Ancient Greece look like a fantastic locale to explore. It’s bound to keep players busy for the whole month of October 2018.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
The most popular video game series in the world needs no introduction, but Black Ops 4 is looking to shake up the series more in October 2018, than any entry in years has. The biggest change, of course, is the removal of a single player campaign, and the addition of an ambitious Battle Royale mode, Blackout. This mode brings together characters, maps, and elements from across the Black Ops series.
Throwing 80 players together on a massive map, like the typical Battle Royale mode players or squads have to fight it out to see who the last one standing is. Of course, all of this comes with the tight gunplay and weapons of Call of Duty. If Blackout works properly online, and is supported properly, it could easily end up rocketing to the top of the Battle Royale genre. However, Treyarch will have to do enough to make Blackout stand out from the rest of the pack.
That’s not all Black Ops 4 brings, of course, as it also has the usual full-fledged multiplayer mode and three different campaigns for zombies. Some small but meaningful changes to multiplayer has each player choosing a specialist to play as, and making the overall experience feel a tiny bit more like a hero shooter. Mechanics have also been slightly altered to have more of a tactical and teamwork focus.
Despite the lack of a single player campaign, Black Ops 4 is absolutely packed with content to dig into. Fans of multiplayer shooters could easily find it to be one of the best PS4 games of October 2018.

SoulCalibur VI
SoulCalibur’s unique brand of weapon-based fighting has separated it from the rest of the fighting genre for years, and now the series is set to make a big comeback after the lukewarm reception for SC V. SoulCalibur VI brings back a more intricate story mode to the series, taking place in the 16th century during the time period the very first game did. It functions as a kind of reboot more than anything and lots of classic characters are making a return including Siegfried, Mitsurugi, Seong mi-Na, and Cervantes.
For the most part the game’s combat system is similar to past entries, but it does introduce a big new system known as Reversal Edge. This mechanic is based around improving defensive gameplay, and lets you defend against an attack and then instantly launch back with one of your own. Outside of Reversal Edge the other big new addition comes with the guest character, Geralt of Rivia. Geralt sports his own story mode, and the character’s moveset seems like it’s ripped right out of The Witcher 3.
The last couple of years have already been good for fighting game fans, but SoulCalibur VI could easily find a spot among the pantheon of the best, if it ends up impressing. In terms of fighting games, it’s right at the top of the best PS4 games in October 2018.

My Hero One’s Justice
My Hero Academia has exploded onto the anime scene over the last two years, becoming the most popular anime series in the entire world. After a tremendously popular season 3 and the very first feature-length film, My Hero Academia will also be getting its first video game in October 2018.
The anime revolves around a world where having some kind of super power known as a “Quirk” is the norm. In this world superheroes become defenders of justice working with the government and getting Hero Licenses, as villains terrorize society for their own selfish reasons. My Hero One’s Justice sports one vs one arena battles with stage destruction, and has a story mode as well as multiplayer options. The story mode picks up during season 2 and will follow events through part of season 3 of the show. It’ll even have some story moments and developments unique to the game.
You’ll be able to play as a ton of different heroes and villains from across the series like Midoriya, All-Might, Dabi, Tokoyami, Tsuyu, and more. A sidekick system also lets you bring another hero into battle to help, and beating the main story will let you unlock a new alternative story mode known as Villain Mode.
Anime games can be very hit or miss, but My Hero One’s Justice looks to be more on the positive side. Even in the face of some gargantuan AAA releases, it could end of being one of the best PS4 games of October 2018.

Red Dead Redemption II
Rockstar certainly takes their time developing games, but it definitely pays off as nearly each release receives huge critical and fan acclaim. After waiting nearly eight years, the highly-awaited sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, finally releases in October 2018. The game is actually a prequel to the original following Arthur Morgan, a member of the feared Dutch Van der Linde Gang, which John Marston was a part of.
Red Dead Redemption II once again drops players into a stunning recreation of the Old West, this time putting more emphasis on survival elements. You’ll need to keep up Morgan’s appearance and his weapons, or your usefulness in battle and the way people judge you will both affected.
Deadeye once again makes a return, but surprisingly the entire game can be played in either first or third-person, right from the get-go. The journey across the West will take you to five different states, and a variety of climates and locales.
Red Dead Redemption II looks even more ambitious than the first game, and all eyes are on it as being one of the potential Game of the Year candidates. Only time will tell if it lives up to the hype, but it certainly looks like a defining game, and one of the very best PS4 games to pick up this month.
