The Minecraft “Super Duper Graphics Pack” Has Been Canceled

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

A visual upgrade for Minecraft that was first revealed back at E3 2017 has been canceled. In a blog post today, the Minecraft Company admitted the ‘Super Duper Graphics Pack’ was “too technically demanding” and simply didn’t run well enough across all platforms.

The post explains with an apology to fans:

“We realize this is disappointing to some of you – there was a lot of enthusiasm for Super Duper from inside and outside the studio – but unfortunately, we aren’t happy with how the pack performed across devices. For this reason, we’re stopping development on the pack and looking into other ways for you to experience Minecraft with a new look.”

It signs off by promising information on new content in the near future:

“Minecraft is available on a wide range of platforms, and we’re constantly trying to make the most of the technical architecture of each one. We’ll be able to share more on that subject very soon.”

Perhaps they’re alluding to Minecraft Dungeons, which was showcased at E3 2019 in detail? That, or maybe we can expect to hear more about Minecraft Earth, a new AR game set in the Minecraft world that was announced by Microsoft back in May? We’ll keep our ears to the ground.
