Nintendo Makes 60% of Its American Revenue over the Holidays

In an interview with Yahoo Finance, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said the company earns around 60% of its revenue in the holiday season.

Those wondering if the Switch can hit its lofty sales goal of 20 million consoles by the end of the fiscal year might have reason to believe. In an interview with Yahoo Finance, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime said the company earns around 60% of its revenue in October, November and December.

“We typically do, in the Americas, about 60% of our revenue during that time frame,” Fils-Aime told Yahoo Finance. “The reason that it’s so significant is first, our products make great gifts. Whether you’re talking about Nintendo Switch, whether you’re talking about Nintendo 2DS, we really do well with that gift- giving occasion.”

When Nintendo revealed their goal of 20 million Switch sales by the end of the fiscal year in March 2019, it seemed bold to many. Making this goal appear even more unrealistic is the fact that, according to Yahoo Finance, the Switch had only sold 5 million units as of October.

However, with over half of Nintendo’s American revenue coming from the final three months of the year, this sales goal might still be attainable. The company will no doubt be helped by their many black friday deals as well as the successful launch of Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee and the highly anticipated Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Dec. 7.

This quote also shows that the holidays are still highly important in the video game world, even as big releases begin to explore other spots on the calendar.

Will Nintendo have the monster holiday season they are aiming for? Will they reach their goal of 20 million units by March? Let us know what you think in the comments.
