Today Nintendo Released two new commercials to publicize the Nintendo Switch in Japan right in time for the opening of the Holiday shopping season.
The two videos follow a rather clear trend that has been very consistent in the promotion of the Switch in Japan. The first is clearly aimed at an audience of kids and families, while the second targets an older audience, from high-schoolers to office workers.
This appears to reflect Nintendo’s intention to shift its positioning towards an audience of grown-ups without neglecting its younger user base.
We get to see several games, including Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Tennis Aces, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokemon Let’s Go, and more.
While in North America the pitched competition to get consoles under the Christmas three starts with Black Friday, in Japan things get heated at the beginning of December until the first week of January. There is a reason why local analysts call it the “Holiday sales battle” and Nintendo certainly seems to be well equipped to win it if the initial sales of Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! are any indication.
It’ll be interesting to see if the rich Japanese market will help Nintendo achieve its goal of shipping twenty million Switch consoles this fiscal year. Yet, for now, you can check out the commercials below.
