Dying Light 2 Lockpicking Guide: How to Pick Locks & Craft Lockpicks

You’re going to come across a fair few locked containers and doors in Dying Light 2. They can either block your way to the objective you need to reach, or simply conceal an incredibly rare item, weapon or piece of clothing. This Dying Light 2 Lockpicking guide will explain how to craft lockpicks, pick locks and increase your lockpicking skill to make things even easier for you.

Crafting Lockpicks

First off, you’ll need to make sure you’ve got lockpicks. You’re taught how to make these in the game’s tutorial, but if you’ve forgotten, you’ll need some ‘Scraps’ and ‘Cloth Rags.’

As long as you’ve got these, open the ‘Crafting’ menu by pressing the touchpad on PS4/ PS5 and menu button on Xbox Series X|S/ XB1 and tab over to ‘Crafting.’

Here, select the ‘Lockpick’ crafting recipe and press X/A. This will cause you to craft two, or you can press Triangle/ Y to craft the maximum amount of lockpicks with the amount of ingredients you’ve got.

Now that you’ve got your lockpicks, we can move on to actually picking locks.

Picking Locks in Dying Light 2

The lockpicking minigame in Dying Light 2 is very similar to that of Fallout and The Elder Scrolls series. Your two analog sticks will be used to turn the lock and adjust the pin position itself.

Specifically, you’ll be using the right analog stick to turn the lock, and the left analog stick to adjust the pin’s position within the lock.

The more resistance you feel when moving the right analog stick, the further the pin is from the correct position. The goal here is to adjust the analog sticks until you find the position that the lock is able to turn 90 degrees and open.

The best way to lockpick in Dying Light 2, then, is to move the left analog stick around different parts of the lock, and then give the right analog stick a gentle nudge to see if it’ll turn at all. If it does, keep turning. If it stops turning, let go of the right analog stick and try somewhere else on the lock.

It’s very much a trial and error process, but it’s not that difficult to get your head around once you’ve successfully picked a few locks.

Keep in mind, though, there are three different tiers of difficulty when it comes to lockpicking — easy, medium, and hard. You can upgrade your lock picking skills by simply picking more locks. Practice makes perfect, after all.

That’s everything you need to know on how to pick locks in Dying Light 2. For more tips, tricks and guides, head over to our wiki or see more of our coverage on the game below.
