Today popular developer and Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi announced his new studio following his recent departure from Sega.
The studio is simply called “Nagoshi Studio” and it’s a wholly-owned subsidiary of NetEase games. We learn that it was actually opened on November 1, 2021, and it’s based in Ebisu, Tokyo.
The goal of the studio is to develop high-end games targeting the worldwide market, primarily in the home console field.
Besides Nagoshi-san, who will serve as president, the staff includes producer Daisuke Sato, director Taichi Ushioda, artists Kazuki Hosokawa, Naoki Someya, and Toshihiro Ando, programmer Koji Tokieda, game designer Masao Shirosaki, and engineer Mitsunori Fujimoto.
In a message that accompanied the announcement, Nagoshi-san mentioned that he wants his studio to be an open place. It doesn’t matter how good one is, it’s impossible to achieve full potential alone, so he believes that the first step to creating quality games and achieving the essence of entertainment starts with an open environment where developers can talk with each other frankly regardless of rank.
He continues mentioning that it’s important not to be afraid to make mistakes but also correct them with honesty and turn them into assets. He intends not to abandon his ideals, but persistently move closer to them.
While this may seem obvious, what is obvious can be surprisingly difficult, and at the same time, the most important thing. The studio aims to create content for the world in such an environment.
