Spiritfarer Gets Free Jackie & Daria Update Next Week

Spiritfarer

Today, indie developer Thunder Lotus Games announced that its acclaimed resource management sim, Spiritfarer, will be getting a brand new update on Dec. 13 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Stadia. The best part? It’ll be absolutely free for existing owners of the game.

The upcoming Autumn update is allegedly the “largest” one yet, and boasts the addition of two new spirits. Go ahead and check out the new ‘Jackie and Daria’ trailer below:

For those unaware, Spiritfarer is a unique management experience that puts you in the shoes of a ferrymaster who is tasked with transporting numerous souls to the afterlife. Essentially, players must help these souls “pass over” to the other side by helping them come to terms with specific regrets from their past. Pretty deep, no?

Our very own Keenan McCall reviewed Spiritfarer for PS4 when it came out last year, and absolutely adored his time with the release, ultimately awarding it a 4.5/5, concluding:

Spiritfarer is one of a kind, and well worth anyone’s time. Its energetic art style, moving score and uplifting stories about acceptance and loss all meld with the gameplay for an experience players won’t soon forget, even as they move onto their next adventures.

This third and final free update planned for Spiritfarer this year is also its largest. In the Jackie and Daria Update, our heroine Stella sets sail for a new island where she’ll discover a dilapidated hospital and two new spirits: the caretaker Jackie, and Daria, his main patient. Stella’s care and efforts will help soothe a troubled mind and bring the facility back to its former glory. Additionally, the update adds a new platforming event, as well as new upgrades for the ferry.

“We’ve saved the best for last!” said Spiritfarer Creative Director Nicolas Guérin in a prepared statement. “The team was unanimous in their desire to make the game’s final update something special, and I feel they’ve really pulled out all the stops here. The Jackie and Daria Update is a lovely curtain call for Spiritfarer as well as a great show of gratitude to the fans who’ve supported us since the day we announced the project. We hope they enjoy taking one final voyage with us!”

Spiritfarer is out now for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Stadia.
