Koei Tecmo Announces Strong Financial Results and Lofty Goals for The Future

As you can see from the table below both net sales and operating income grew considerably year-on-year, while the forecast for next year is basically flat.

The Entertainment segment, which includes games, brought in the lion’s share of the results for both sales and profits.

We learn that  Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity shipped over 3.7 million units worldwide. Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy has now shipped over 360,000 copies.

The company is launching a new medium-term management plan to achieve 90 billion yen in yearly sales and 30 billion yen in operating profit by the fiscal year ending in March 2024.

On top of that, the company aims to develop a new IP for consoles/PC capable of selling 5 million copies on top of games that could achieve 2 million copies every fiscal year.

The plan also involves launching a smartphone game that would achieve 2 billion yen in monthly sales and multiple capable of achieving 1 billion yen in monthly sales.

Koei Tecmo would like to push horizontal development of successful titles like Nioh and the mobile game Sangokushi Hadou, while expanding the Atelier, Warriors, and their simulation games series globally. On top of that, they intend to develop new IP and challenge growing genres.

More details include the expansion of the global business (including the west and China), and the improvement of the quality of titles published on the global market.

The long term goal remains to become the “number one digital entertainment company in the world.”

We get the mention of the Katana Engine, which was used for the Atelier Ryza series. On top of that, Koei Tecmo intends to use AI technology in its historical simulation games.

The document further details an expansion of the strategy that involves collaborating with other companies as it was done with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity and a five-year development plan that will lead to the creation of a large game.
