Today during the Resident Evil Showcase, Capcom announced that Resident Evil Village will grant access to a free multiplayer experience called RE: Verse.
RE: Verse is a six-player mode that has you play as iconic Resident Evil heroes and villains such as Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, and Ada Wong in deathmatches.
Whenever a player is killed, they will mutate into bioweapons to hunt down the players that killed them. The game features over-the-shoulder, third-person gunplay, and a comic book-like art style.
Other playable characters are Jill Valentine, Hunk, Nemesis, and Jack Baker. Each character will have their own unique skill sets that the player will apparently have to master. The only map shown off thus far has been the Racoon City Police Department from Resident Evil 2 & 3 Remake.
There is a closed beta that comes out on January 28 on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The application link for the beta is right here.
Capcom Producer Tsuyoshi Kanda said that the company is celebrating Resident Evil’s 25th anniversary in many ways and that RE: Verse is one of them. Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil RE: Verse will release on May 7, 2021, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox One X|S, and PC.
