The original Dark Souls is a very rich game filled with lore and fascinating world tidbits that truly bring it to life. Aside from just barreling through the game to reach the final boss, you can also join various covenants to reap specific bonuses.
While most may simply dismiss the mechanic as offering nothing more than furthering your exploits in Dark Souls, others might see it as a reflection of your beliefs and personality.
