Nintendo Releases Free Demo for Kirby Fighters 2; Includes Multiplayer

While there hasn’t been a “mainline” Kirby game since Star Allies released in 2018, Nintendo has expanded the Kirby Fighters franchise with a sequel. A free demo, which is available now allows players to play the first chapter of story mode or play against others in battle mode either locally or online.

That last part, including the battle mode, feels quite significant for a demo as that is a large part of the draw of the game which normally costs $19.99. I’ll have to download it and give it a whirl to see if there are any limitations, or if the multiplayer portion is essentially free now.

Kirby Fighters 2 borrows elements Super Smash Bros. allowing players to duke it out using popular copy abilities from the classic franchise such as Hammer, Sword, and Archer either locally or online.

Kirby Fighters 2 also includes a story mode where you partner up and complete various battle-related challenges while leveling up your Kirby after each stage.

If you’ve never played any of two spin-off games, the gameplay is essentially Super Smash Bros. lite. If you’re a fan of brawlers, Kirby games, and enjoy messing around with copy abilities, you might get a kick out of it.

Kirby Fighters 2 was surprise released on Sept. 23 on Nintendo Switch and its new free demo is available now as well.
