Today Square Enix made an announcement that will please many Japanese train otaku. The popular Densha de GO!! series is coming to modern consoles.

The new game, titled Densha de GO!! Hashirou Yamanote-sen (translating into “Let’s run along the Yamanote Line”) will release in Japan for PS4 on December 3, 2020.

A Nintendo Switch version is also coming but doesn’t have a release date just yet. The PS4 version will support PlayStation VR.

Below you can check out a trailer and announcement screenshots.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Densha de GO!! series, it’s a popular series of train simulator games that debuted in Japan all the way back in 1996.

Originally, it was produced by Taito, so it passed into Square Enix’s portfolio after the company’s acquisition in 2006.

This is a rather special occasion considering that the series hasn’t gotten a console release since the latest Nintendo DS game in 2010, with two arcade launches since.

Incidentally, if you’re wondering, the Yamanote Line is one of the most iconic train lines in Tokyo, Japan, well-known for the green and grey livery of its cars.

At the moment, Densha de GO!! Hashirou Yamanote-sen has been announced only for Japan. The chances to get a western release are likely slim, but I’m still going to hope.
