Having a friend along for the ride doesn’t always lessen the terror of a situation, or at least that’s the case in the latest trailer for Little Nightmares II.

Streamed during the Gamescom Opening Night Live digital event held on Aug. 27, the trailer provides a better glimpse at the long-awaited sequel in action. It begins with the two playable characters encountering one another, one of which is already adorned in the paper bag over their head. They then set out together into a moody and atmosheric world, which is almost as beautiful as it is eerie.

Things quickly take a turn for the unnerving though, as the two make their way further into the world in a variety of clips. Large, looming figures seem to be hunting them all the time, and most every corner turned reveals new traps and dangers they need to protect each other from.

All the while, a soft whistling melody which plays throughout the trailer gets more and more distorted, hinting at the deteriorating state of the world the player characters are forced to delve deeper into.

The mood continues to worsen as each new danger becomes more and more unnerving, and the two become separated at some point. It all culminates in the child with the sack on their head coming upon a large figure that snatches them up in the blink of an eye. Shortly after, it’s revealed that the game is slated for release on modern platforms on Feb. 11, 2021, while next-gen consoles will receive a port later in the year.

It’s unnerving, yet captivating, and well worth giving a look down below.

Little Nightmares is currently slated for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. For more on the game, check out its reveal trailer from last year.
