Shuhei Yoshida Talks PS5: Developers Feel that Creating Games Is Easier than Ever Before

Sony Interactive Entertainment's Shuhei Yoshida talks about the upcoming PS5, the potential of Asian devs, and the acquisition of Insomniac Games.

Today’s issue of the Japanese magazine Dengeki PlayStation included an article penned by Sony Interactive Entertainment Head of Independent Developer Initiative Shuhei Yoshida, in which he talks about the upcoming PS5 and more.

Yoshida.san shares that the response from game developers to the PlayStation 5 is that it’s easier to create software for the platform than ever before.

He mentions that if the challenge posed by the hardware becomes the hurdle to overcome, developers can’t focus on creating the games.

On the other hand, if the hardware makes it easier to develop software, then developers can achieve more and spend more time actually developing.

Sony actually had the same policy with PS4, but Yoshida-san believes that the PS5 has the advantage in this. He’s looking forward to seeing what happens a year after the release of the console.

From now on, it’ll be very important that the whole user experience is fun, on top of the evolution of visuals.

Speaking of his role facing developers, Yoshida-san explained that he feels momentum from Asian developers from countries like China and Malaysia, mentioning Genshin Impact developer MiHoYo and Gigabash creators Passion Republic Games.

He explains that they’re young, hard-working, and talented, and he looks forward to seeing what they will create in the future.

With PlayStation released in China, it appears that it’s becoming more and more popular locally, and Yoshida-san feels that there is a lot of potential for the future.

Last, but not least, Yoshida-san talked about the party held to celebrate the acquisition of Insomniac Games a part of Sony’s Worldwide Studios. While he has worked with them for 20 years, he finally feels that the “wall” has gone.

They have always been very close, but there has been confidential information that couldn’t be shared with them before. Now that has changed and there is no longer a need to negotiate every project. Yoshida-san can’t wait to see what they’ll do, and Insomniac is looking forward to interacting with the other WWS studios and with the hardware developers directly.

In other PS5 news, we recently learned that Kadokawa Games is negotiating the development of a game for Sony’s new console.
