Pokemon Sword and Shield has dynamax version of nearly all of its catchable Pokemon but some Pokemon can go beyond that. In this guide we’ll show you how to get Gigantamax Snorlax, a special event version of everyone’s favorite sleepy boy/girl.
How to Get Gigantamax (G-Max) Snorlax in Pokemon Sword and Shield
First off, before we dive into how to get Gigantamax AKA G-Max Snorlax in Pokemon Sword and Shield, can we first just acknowledge how perfect it is. After maybe DECADES of blocking the routes of Red and Blue, finally someone got tired of its crap and just built the route right on top of Snorlax. Golden.
Anyway, you’re able to get G-Max Snorlax the same way you would any other Gigantamax Pokemon in Sword and Shield.
Namely, it has a chance of appearing in your game via one of the glowing dens that are scattered all over the Wild Area of Sword and Shield. During the Gigantamax Snorlax event, it will appear quite often.
You could possibly also spawn one in yourself via Wishing Stones that you can purchase from any Watts trader for 3,000 Watts.
If you’re having trouble finding it though, definitely make sure to connect to the internet in your Y-Comm and keep an eye out for Max Raid Battle stamps that appear to feature G-Max Snorlax. Look out for the silhouette that appears to resemble the featured image above.
There’s a good chance that lots of players connected to your game are going to be going after this particular max raid battle, so keep an eye out.
Catching G-Max Snorlax
Like other G-Max Pokemon, Snorlax is going to be a five star raid battle, so it’s going to be a tough one. We highly recommend connecting to the internet and trying with at least one other player, preferably with as close to a full group as possible.
This is because as many Sword and Shield players can tell you, the AI trainers are pretty bad, often have bad/useless Pokemon and their deaths will count towards the four that will fail the raid battle. Avoid them as much as possible for five star max raid battles.
Bringing along a hard-hitting Fighting Pokemon will give you the best chance of taking down G-Max Snorlax. If you can manage to find a Pokemon that has Ghost typing and Fighting moves, that will give you a huge advantage as you can be immune to all of Gigantamax Snorlax’s STAB Normal attacks while also being able to fire back with super-effective attacks of your own.
Once it’s time to catch it, try to use a Repeat Ball if you have already caught Snorlax before. Otherwise an Ultra Ball will work decently well, or a Timer Ball if you’re near the ten turn time limit. Otherwise obviously, a Master Ball will work if you really want to make sure you catch Snorlax.
