What Depth Strider Enchantment Is in Minecraft & What It Does

As with other enchantments in the game, Depth Strider can be used to enchant your character’s boots in Minecraft at an enchanting table, anvil, or by using a cheat (naughty you). Your boots can be enchanted all the way up to Depth Strider III, with the higher the level granting an improved effect, of course.

Depth Strider allows you to move faster underwater as long as you’re wearing the boots that have been enchanted with the spell. As noted above, the higher the level, the faster your underwater movement speed will be. This tops out at level 3, which lets the player swim as fast as they can walk on land.

Unfortunately, there’s no way you can guarantee yourself that you’re going to get the Depth Strider enchantment when enchanting your boots at an enchanting table. As is the case with all enchantments, Minecraft will randomly select three enchantments for you to choose from, which are dependent on the item you have. Don’t forget you’ll need Lapis Lazuli too!

If you pick the highest costing enchantment, you’ll usually get two additional enchantments on top which are suitable for the item type you have.

Fortunately, you won’t always be stuck with the randomly selected enchantments for that item if they’re not to your liking, or in this specific case, don’t include Depth Strider.

If you wait about a day in-game and return to your enchanting table, Minecraft will give you three new random enchantments for you to choose from. You can continue to do this until you get the Depth Strider enchantment you’re after. Then, it’s simply a case of selecting it and away you go.

The only way you can guarantee yourself the Depth Strider enchantment is to make yourself an enchanted book with the particular enchantment and then use this to enchant your boots, but even then, you’ll have to have got lucky for your book to be enchanted with Depth Strider.
