Today Bandai Namco released a trailer of its upcoming mobile JRPG Tales of Crestoria.
The trailer was originally showcased in Los Angeles at Anime Expo and features a skit starring male and female leads Kanata and Misella. If you’re not familiar with this kind of video, it’s quite common in the Tales series.
Funnily, as the two talk about the western release of the game coming later this year, Misella wonders if Kanata has what it takes to make it big in America, because he isn’t ripped enough.
Since American heroes are “brawny” and they “use their ripped arms to grab their enemies, and their bulging chest muscles to tear them apart,” Japanese heroes may seem frail in comparison, and Kanata might not be able to win the American audience over with his slender build.
Kanata decides he’s going to get “super-jacked” before the western release of the game, and Misella wonders how they can Americanize him further, possibly by sewing stars and stripes on his clothes and calling him Captain Kanata. She even suggests changing his backstory into that of Spider-Man, just to be sure.
It’s pretty funny, and you can watch it below.
At the moment Tales of Crestoria is still slated for a generic “2019” release both in Japan and in the west.
If you want to see more, you can watch the previous trailer and the extended reveal trailer featuring a collaboration between animation studio Kamikaze Douga, which recently worked on Batman Ninja, and DJ Yasutaka Nakata.
