Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot puts players into the shoes of Goku once again, and this time there are some familiar faces that you’ll see pop up, ones we haven’t seen that much of. Although the game follows the original story of Dragon Ball there’ll be “new developments,” including letting characters interact that you’ve never previously seen together.
Twinfinite had the chance to sit down with Kakarot’s director, Ryosuke Hara, from Cyberconnect2, as well as Kazuki Kimoto from Bandai Namco, where we learned a bit more.
Although Bandai Namco was a bit cagey on full details, Hara told us “There’s the main story plot that you follow, and then there’s substories, like what you saw in the demo with Eighter. There’s gonna be other characters from past Dragon Ball series that will make an appearance kind of ‘all grown up.’ You can talk to them and that will reveal, you know, a side story. So yes, definitely, it’s a lot of that too.
There’s also a subquest that introduces a conversation between characters that you probably have never seen interact before. So that’s another thing that we sorta have hidden in substories.”
So far we’ve seen a host of somewhat obscure Dragon Ball characters in the time we had with the game including Eighter, Lunch, and Nam. Obviously, this opens up a world of characters that have never interacted, especially if Bandai Namco and Cyberconnect2 are trying to use characters from the original Dragon Ball.
Going off that, Hara also told us “There’s gonna be other characters from past Dragon Ball series that will make an appearance kind of ‘all grown up.”
We’re sure to find out more as time goes on, and the comment most likely applies to characters like Eighter, who we saw as a child in the original Dragon Ball but has grown into an adult in Kakarot.
Dragon Ball: Kakarot is set to launch sometime in 2020 on PlayStation4, Xbox One, and PC.
Do you have any classic characters you’d like to see come back? Leave a comment below and let us know, and make sure to look forward to our full interview which will be coming soon.
