Today Koei Tecmo had a surprise in store for Dead or Alive fans. The free to play game Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation just launched in open beta via Steam.

Even more intriguing is the fact that the game supports English subtitles, on top of Korean, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese. As a matter of fact, it appears that this launch is intended for the Asian market.

An English official site is available here and the official Steam listing can be found here, but it’s blocked in western countries. That being said, the game can be installed from SteamDB, and it works after that, at least in Italy where I am located. If the SteamDB option doesn’t work, you can try this direct Steam install link.

Update: apparently some western countries appear to be blocked, while others aren’t. If you can’t install the game using the solution above, using a free VPN like Cyberghost and selecting a country that isn’t blocked to install the game will get you around the issue.

The client is nearly identical to the Japanese version that is distributed by DMM. One relevant difference is that it’s not possible to click on the girls in the main menu causing them to react.

The open beta includes an event that halves the consumption of FP and double rewards for daily festivals. It’ll run until April 4, which is likely to be the end date of the testing phase.

While options that were added in Japan after the game’s release like 4K support and the toggle between 30 and 60 frames-per-second are available, features are similar to the version originally launched in the Archipelago of the Rising Sun. Events aren’t available yet, and the newly added girls Fiona, Luna, Tamaki, Nagisa, and Leifang aren’t part of the cast for the moment.

If you’re not familiar with the game, it’s a free to play spin-off of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3, created by Koei Tecmo and DMM by using pretty much the same assets. Yet, it features completely different gameplay designed to be as hands-free as possible. It features optional microtransactions and fanservice aplenty.

If your interest leans more towards console games, you can check out the latest trailer of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Scarlet, which has just been released for PS4 and Switch.

Update: Twinfinite received a press release from Koei Tecmo Singapore, providing more info about the release. The Steam launch is indeed intended for the Asian market (Greater China, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam).

It initially includes the ten girls mentioned above, and the publisher promises regular updates with new swimsuits and accessories pretty much like the Japanese version.

The first event titled “Pajama Party” will begin tomorrow, and the game appears to follow the same initial progression of the Japanese service. The event gacha will feature two SSR outfits for Misaki, the “Rise and Shine Blouse” and the “Pure White Slit One-Piece.”

A “Welcome New Owner!” Campaign will be hosted starting today for six days, with an SSR ticket available for a discounted price. Those who will play during the open beta will receive the “Commemorative Scrunchie” SR outfit.
