Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 players now have more options to earn more cosmetic skins and outfits with the Black Market feature launching today on PlayStation 4, developer Treyarch announced.
The Black Market originated from Treyarch’s previous title, Black Ops 3, allowing players to earn Supply Drops by spending COD Points or Cryptokeys earned through gameplay. The Supply Drops would contain cosmetic items for specialists, weapons, and more.
The Black Market in Black Ops 4 seems to abandon the previous model for a system more similar to Epic Games’s Fortnite: Battle Royale. The “Contraband stream” within the market allows players to earn specific cosmetic items through playing the game.
These Contraband items will be releasing every few months in “seasonal Operations” with each Operation bringing a new stream of content. The Contraband items include new Blackout characters, specialist outfits, tags and gestures, and “signature weapons.”
The Black Market will also contain limited-time events that offer more unique items through playing the game. The first event will be Halloween-themed with a free stream of content coming to PlayStation 4 on Saturday, Oct. 20, while PC and Xbox One will receive it seven days later on Oct. 27.
Treyarch also announced that a feature to directly purchase specific pieces of gear, called Blackjack’s Shop, will be coming to Black Ops 4 sometime in November. The shop will refresh a variety of items weekly, though no information was given whether COD Points or another type of currency would be necessary for the shop.
The Black Market is live now for Black Ops 4 players on PlayStation 4, with Xbox One and PC following seven days later. The seven-day exclusivity window for PlayStation 4 applies to all Black Ops 4 free and paid post-launch content.
