In one of the biggest boss fights Platinum has ever created, Scalebound impressed during Microsoft’s E3 conference. Featuring 4-player co-op, the demo had four dragons and their riders taking on a massive aquatic creature.

The demo showcased the abilities of the human riders, shooting fire out of their hands and transitioning between being on foot and riding the dragons. Using a mix of melee and ranged combat, they struck at critical points on the creature. At multiple points, the dragons launched their riders through the air with their tails, allowing the riders to get up close and personal with the enemy.

Scalebound will be available in 2017 for Xbox One and Windows 10.

Scalebound has been fairly underwraps since its reveal as an Xbox One exclusive at last year’s E3. We learned even more at Gamescom, as Microsoft went all-out touting their incoming lineup. In January of this year, Scalebound was officially delayed to 2017 so that the team could have ample time to realize their vision and meet high fan expectations.

“Strategically, give it time to breathe; let’s make sure we can give it enough space,” said Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg. “First and foremost, always make sure the game is great.”

In the meantime, we learned that the game originally starred a girl and dinosaurs, and that the final release will have a deep, meaningful bond bewteen Thuban (the dragon) and Drew.
