The Five Nights at Freddy’s series exploded onto popularity the last couple of years, with the most recent game Five Nights at Freddy’s World releasing just this week. FNAF World was met with a wealth of negative criticism because of unintuitive combat, buginess and a general feeling of being unfinished.

Scott Cawthon, the creator of the series, publicly apologized for releasing the game too early and promised he would be adding in features to “make it right.” Just this morning through a post on Steam, Cawthon announced that he would be pulling FNAF World from Steam.

“Even though the game had a “Very Positive” rating with 87%, I was not satisfied with the reviews and ratings it was getting. For that reason, I’ve decided to remove the game from Steam.”

Cawthon has contacted Valve and asked that the company offers full refunds for everyone who purchased the game, regardless of how long they’ve owned it. He notes that it may take a while to set that system up, but it will be in place soon. Cawthon says he will continue to work on the game and polish it, until the point that its ready to release again, for free.

“I’m busy creating a fully 3D overworld for the game. When I’m ready to update the game, I will replace the demo currently on GameJolt with the full game. From this point forward, the game will always be free.”

There’s no window currently on when FNAF World may release again. It is disappointing to see the game get pulled from Steam entirely, but its good to see a developer so committed to his work that he’ll take responsibility and make the game free from here on out. Cawthon had one final word thanking his fans for their support,

“I appreciate your support, and I encourage you all to refund your Steam game (even if you enjoyed the game), and download the new version when it becomes available on GameJolt. :)”

Have you bought and played FNAF World? Do you plan on getting a refund for the game? What do you think of Cawthon taking the game down and reworking it? Will you still be interested in the updated version? Let us know what you think in the comments.
