Nintendo has announced today via their official Twitter page and via press release that their newest console, the Switch, has reached a sales milestone. Indeed, the hybrid machine has now officially sold 10 million copies as of the time of this writing.

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime had the following to say regarding the console’s recent accomplishment: “As you can see in people’s living rooms, on a plane or riding the subway, fans all over the world can enjoy playing Nintendo Switch wherever they go. The response from fans has been great, and we’re doing our very best to satisfy demand during the holiday shopping season.”

The Nintendo Switch had a great software lineup this year, featuring two titles (The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey) that many fans and media outlets are seriously considering for the highly coveted title of Game of the Year.

It should be noted that today’s achievement positions the Switch as roughly on par with the PlayStation 4 sales-wise, as Sony announced that their console had reached 10 million units sold roughly 270 days after release whereas Nintendo is announcing their accomplishment roughly 284 days since launch.

It remains to be seen if this momentum will continue well into 2018, though for now fans seem very eager to try out the console for themselves. Here’s hoping that shortages won’t befall retailers for the remainder of the holiday season, lest the Switch’s numbers not move beyond 10 million before the year is over.
