Want to Hear Zelda Speak German? A New Update for Breath of the Wild Adds Better Language Support

Now you can actually understand what German Zelda is saying!
This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

Right after Nintendo’s detailed announcement on the first DLC pack that will be coming to Breath of the Wild this summer, we’ve learned that a new update has gone live for the title. The 1.2.0 update adds something to the multi-language support that wasn’t quite there in the initial game. The Switch is region-free, so people could technically play the game in whatever language that they wanted. The problem was that there was no way to change the subtitles to a different region, so if you wanted to watch the cut-scenes in french, the subtitles would be in french as well. This update fixes that issue and lets players choose any of the 9 languages that the game supports for both voice-over and subtitles.

Breath of the Wild’s new update is available now on Switch and Wii U, though Wii U players will have to download a separate “Language Pack” from the eShop. Here are the 9 languages that the game supports:

  • Japanese
  • English
  • French (France)
  • French (Canadian)
  • German
  • Spanish (Spain)
  • Spanish (Latin America)
  • Italian
  • Russian

Which language do you want to try out first? Interested to see how Zelda would sound if she were Russian? We know that we are. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is out now for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
