Prison Architect will be releasing on the PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One this Spring, as announced by the Managing Director at Introversion Software Mark Morris.
Prison Architect lets players both construct their own prison in a top-down view, and manage the multiple different areas of the prison system. The game has a story mode called Prison Stories, which they say is what the majority of players start off with. It has been heralded as one of the best examples of a Steam Early Access game.
The game made its first appearance on Steam in Early Access, and released as a finished product in October 2015. Before Steam, Prison Architect was first announced by the developers in 2011, and in 2012 they decided to go down the crowd funding route. Instead of using Kickstarter, the crowd funding occurred through their own website, with the game also being released in an alpha state. They have said that in the first two weeks there were over 7500 sales, which raised over $270,000.
While an exact release date for the console release hasn’t been announced yet, it sound like there won’t be a long wait for console owners to play Prison Architect. For now, you can watch the short announcement trailer below.
