Mobile esports is on the rise and today a new tournament enters the fray. Called the eSports Pro League (ESPL), the media network and tournament platform will launch in 2020, “offering an integrated open ecosystem for tournaments, media, brands, publishers, teams, and players.”
The ESPL, which is headquartered in Singapore and has offices in Los Angeles and Cologne, has been co-founded by esports investor Michael Broda (formerly of esports.com), iCandy Interactive Limited, and Malaysian tech firm Sedania Innovator Berhad.
Community and digital interactivity are said to be key focal points for the ESPL, who plan to adopt a hybrid online and on-the-ground tournament model. The idea is to promote accessibility for young players, creating a “bedroom-to-champion.”
While mobile esports is the main platform focus, the ESPL will also feature PC and console gaming competitions, too.
The tournament is to launch across 16 countries initially, covering major regions such as Asia, Europe, and the Americas. They’ll be working with experienced local tournament operators, adopting a scalable licensed partnership model. The ESPL will also work alongside game-publishers interested in promoting competitive gaming, too.
The ESPL’s first season is scheduled for February through December 2020. Tournament rules and specifics are yet to be finalized.
ESPL CEO Michael Broda comments:
“We are very excited to launch the first season of the eSports Pro League in February 2020. Response from our international partners has been overwhelmingly positive. There is so much interest in ESPL.
