The Division Won’t Feature Brooklyn in the Base Game

Brooklyn is out.

The Division, a new open-world shooter from Ubisoft set in New York, won’t allow you to wage war across Brooklyn despite the fact previous videos of the game in action indicated this area would indeed be included.

Ubisoft is instead opting to focus on Midtown Manhattan for story related reasons. In an interview with Examiner, creative director Magnus Jansen said: “For Tom Clancy’s The Division we are going with Midtown Manhattan. It is because of the 1-to-1 recreation and the way the pandemic has [happened]. Basically, everything has been hit and there are no more resources because everyone tried to get out. There is no more gasoline in the cars, there is no traffic, you’re on foot.”

For those worried that the map may be too small, it doesn’t seem like this will be the case. Jansen was quick to point out that Midtown Manhattan will still offer a “huge open world” and that it will be “more than enough to sink your teeth into.”

It has already been confirmed that DLC will be made available for The Division so it might be that Brooklyn will be added as a sort of expansion pack. It’s possible other boroughs such as Queens and The Bronx could also be added, though this is just speculation.

A closed beta for The Division is set to begin on January 28 for Xbox One gamers who have pre-ordered the title. PS4 and PC players will be able to join in on January 29. The beta will end on January 31on all platforms.

The game itself is due to be released on March 8 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
