Next MGSV: TPP Update Adds Paid FOB Insurance, New Missions and More

Insurance to protect your FOBs.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain‘s next update is scheduled to hit tomorrow, October 6. Focusing largely on online play, the patch is adding new missions, higher level equipment, and even a paid protection service called “FOB insurance.”

“Your FOBs are always at risk of coming under attack,” the update reads. “Now, you can rest easy with FOB insurance (paid service). If you sign up for insurance, then during the insurance period you will be compensated for any materials and staff lost due to rival infiltrations.”

It seems the service is purchased with MB Coins, the currency of MGSV: The Phantom Pain’s microtransaction system. These coins are sometimes given to players as daily rewards, but they are more easily acquired by purchasing them with real-world cash. Like most insurance policies, FOB insurance has a list of non-covered instances, including death of wounded staff, because they’re just not in the budget.

The update also adds new Event FOBs, which allow players to invade FOBs created by the game developers without fear of counter-attacks. To catch up on the full list of changes, including GMP limit increases and a new Grade 7 equipment tier, check out Konami’s update notes.
