This morning, the Oculus Rift became available for pre-order on the official Oculus site, with the price and release date being announced at the same time. It will cost $599 and the ship date was initially March 2016.
However, according to VRFocus, the day one stock sold out in a staggering 14 minutes, even at the higher than expected price. The expected shipping date was quickly pushed back to April 2016 and again to May 2016 not long later.
Demand is clearly still high for the VR headset and anyone wanting to pre-order one today will have to wait until May at the earliest to receive their device. Considering the general reaction to the Oculus Rift’s price, it may have taken even less time to sell out had it been cheaper.
As already announced, the Oculus Rift will be bundled with an Xbox One Controller plus a copy of both EVE: Valkyrie and Lucky’s Tale.
Do you still intend to pre-order an Oculus Rift or will you wait for a different VR headset? Let us know in the comments.
