PlayStation VR, hands on, virtual reality, worth it

Amazon Accidentally Lists PlayStation VR Pre-Order at $800

This was... probably the worst time for that.

Following the Oculus Rift’s higher than expected price reveal, Amazon Canada erroneously listed the competing PlayStation VR this morning at an even more eye-popping $1,125.35 (Canadian Dollars), or roughly $800 USD.

As reported by Forbes, the pre-order appeared on the official Sony vendor account and included a Dec. 31, 2016 release date, though this is commonly used when a more specific release date is still unknown.

“This was an error by Amazon, we haven’t announced price for PlayStation VR,” Sony said in a statement to Forbes. They also clarified that PSVR is scheduled to release early 2016. The listing has since be removed.

Sony did not specifically state whether the pricing itself was inaccurate, though considering panicked fan responses to Oculus Rift’s $599 price tag, let’s hope to see a more comforting number in the future.

Earlier this week, Sony President and CEO Kaz Hirai said “100 or more” titles are currently in development for PlayStation VR, including one where you can play as a dolphin, cheating off of other dolphins in aquatic school. Oculus founder Palmer Luckey also cited 100 titles set to release for the Rift by the end of the year. If you need to get further into the VR hype zone, you can check out this montage of PlayStation VR games currently in the works.
