The first expansion DLC for Rainbow Six Siege, Operation Black Ice, has been delayed by a few weeks according to the game’s Twitter page. Originally slated for a January 2016 release, Operation Black Ice is now due to be available from February 2nd for season pass owners and then February 9 for everyone else.
Rainbow Six Siege season pass owners will be able to download the expansion free of charge whilst everyone else will need to purchase it. Operation Black Ice will come with two new operators are from Canada’s Joint Task Force 2 counter-terrorism unit and have access to new weapons and gadgets.
The DLC will also include a new map which will be free for all players. There will also be some new weapon skins and gameplay upgrades. Ubisoft revealed in a blog post that a total of eight new operators are planned to be released over the coming year and can be either bought or unlocked through playing the game. Each operator will require about 25 hours of play to unlock.
“The data we have suggests that the average FPS player spends 8-10 hours a week playing their favorite FPS (also in-line with our observation during the closed beta), so it should only take between two to three weeks maximum to unlock an operator,” said the developer.
Despite a troubled beta, Rainbow Six Siege has been released to a great response from both gamers and critics. It’s available now for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
