Today, actress Carrie Fisher passed away at the age of 60 after suffering a heart attack over Christmas weekend. While she appeared in a plethora of films, Fisher was best known for her iconic role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars film series. With the world mourning this loss, fans and community members of Star Wars: The Old Republic are holding memorial services in her honor.
This large MMO game is set 3,600 years before the events of the actual film franchise, however that hasn’t stopped the playerbase from coming together in memory of the legendary actress and character.
Noted by Reddit user bstr413, droves of players on the Ebon Hawk server have journeyed to the Organa Castle on Alderaan, which is Princess Leia’s home world. These players gathered together to pay their respects, and as Reddit user CandianWomble put it in a remembrance post, “At this moment, there is no Republic or Empire – only fans.”
The various ceremonies and gatherings included kneeling and fireworks, with other memorials taking place across the server, as user War_Territory captured in the photo below.
Even though the community has suffered a great loss with Carrie Fisher’s death, it is clear that she will always be remembered for inspiring so many.
