Blizzard’s cross between moba and a first-person shooter of Overwatch currently stands only for release on PC through Blizzard’s Battle.net platform. That may change. A description from Overwatch’s European site innocuously revealed Overwatch’s capability to grab a controller and play the colorful cooperative FPS potentially to the Xbox One and/or PlayStation 4. Overpwn, an Overwatch fan site and a subsidiary of Curse Media, found the details in the site’s recent coding change. The meta description of the site noted the inclusion in the first sentence.
“Overwatch is Blizzard’s team-shooter for PC and consoles. Choose your hero from a huge roster of soldiers, scientists, adventurers, and oddities, each with their own unique set of abilities. Bend time, defy physics, and unleash a dizzying array of extraordinary powers in concert with your allies. Lead your team to victory in iconic locations across a near-future Earth. The world needs heroes!”
Leaks are nothing special in the industry; however, Blizzard dabbled with console development leaks in the past with Diablo III. A tweet from a community manager confirmed development on the then current consoles of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Meanwhile, a Blizzard representative reinterpreted the tweet as confirming Blizzard is exploring console development for Diablo III. Can’t say Blizzard can sneak out of this one by saying the same thing.
No official release date for Overwatch has been set, yet Blizzard plans a closed, North America beta on October 27th.
