As you’d expect, Hytale is a sandbox experience with a similar voxel aesthetic to Minecraft. The title aims to put its own spin on the formula with RPG mechanics and collaborative play options. There’s also a big emphasis on an exploration through its procedurally-generated adventure mode.

The developers have confirmed that all tools utilized to make the game will be readily available for players to use how they see fit, such as for the creation of new models and filmmaking.

Hypixel Studios is seeing a wave of initial support, scoring League of Legend developer Riot Games as an investor. In addition, an advising group consisting of several industry veterans has also been formed, including the former CCO of Blizzard Entertainment, Rob Pardo.

There’s no release date announced for Hytale just yet, though you can sign up for the beta straight away. As for platforms, it looks as though PC is the only option at this stage, but developers are keeping an open mind to a potential console release in the future.

One interesting note is that the title is aiming for a Teen rating from the ESRB, implying that the team has an older audience in mind than Minecraft does.
