The Polycount forums are a buzz after a post made by artist PogoP demoed screenshots from his latest personal project: recreating Half Life 2’s City 17 Apartments with Unreal Engine 4. The results are nothing short of breathtaking, evoking a strange mix of nostalgia and excitement for players of the beloved classic. The project is finished and all of the screenshots are posted up for the world to see.
The passion fans have for the series has not faded, even though it has been more than ten years since the release of Half-Life 2 with no word on a sequel from Valve. This project just goes to show that the world is still yearning for such an announcement, but until then, they certainly wouldn’t mind playing through the original remastered in an Unreal Engine 4 remake. Half-Life got such a treatment with Black Mesa, a fan’s re-envisioning of the original game using the Source Engine. Perhaps Half Life 2 will get a similar treatment soon?
What are your thoughts on PogoP’s recreation? Are you sick of waiting for the Half-Life 3 announcement? Or would you just like to see Half-Life 2 recreated? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
