The Oculus Rift’s newly unveiled $599 price tag, a number that’s been popping eyes all morning, has even millionaire Minecraft creator Markus ‘Notch’ Persson crying into his wallet.

For the record, this is the man who jacked a house from Beyoncé. And when he isn’t enjoying his personal candy room and iPad-controlled infinity pool, Notch is dreaming of the Oculus Rift just out of his grasp. Even after digging into every seat of his tiered screening room for spare change and checking behind his $5,600 Toto Neorest toilets.

Oculus founder Palmer Luckey revealed yesterday that anyone can pre-order an Oculus Rift without paying anything upfront, saying it would be ridiculous to require paid pre-orders before reviews and feedback are available. This also made much more sense after the price reveal that dropped a few hours later.
