Assassin’s Creed Could Come “On a Regular Basis,” But No Longer Yearly

No more Stabby New Year, every year?

Ubisoft surprised everyone by announcing that there wouldn’t be a full fledged Assassin’s Creed game this year. The series has been annual since the release of Brotherhood back in 2010, and for better or worse, that’s the guns they’ve stuck to. For the folks thinking that this would be a one time thing, that may not be the case anymore. While speaking at the company’s Investor’s Day, CEO Yves Guillemont said that the series could end its yearly streak from now on:

“The goal is not automatically to come back on an annual cycle but to come on a regular basis. We saw that it was time now to give it lots of time so [the developers] could really work on the property and all the mechanics to make sure we could take it to another level. What we are seeing today is really promising. We will be able to come [out] on a regular basis. Now we can’t say every year.”

This doesn’t mean they’re completely done with yearly releases, though. Later on in the presentation, CFO Alain Martinez said the company could possibly return to a yearly schedule, but only “if the game was ready” and not if there was a schedule they had to stick with.

Don’t worry about not getting your fix of parkour-stabbing action, though. There’s a movie coming later this year, not to mention the two Chronicles side games, India and Russia, that are currently out now. But if you don’t consider them real Assassin’s Creed games, you’ll have to wait until next year. But that may not be such a bad thing.
