Square Enix and Edios Montreal announce the “Augment Your Pre-Order” program for Deus Ex Mankind Divided is no longer in effect. After a month of negative feedback, a blog post from the official Deus Ex site confirms this act. Picking your own pre-order rewards and the meta game of “more pre-orders equals more rewards unlocked” will no longer function.

“After much thought and reflection, we decided to close down the program and make all of the incentive content available to anyone who pre-orders Deus Ex: Mankind Divided or purchases a Day 1 edition of the game…everyone will gain access to the game on February 23rd, 2016.”

The Day 1 Edition of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided includes the Covert Agent Packs, Digital OST Sampler, extra in-game mission, and digital books. Basically, just about everything from the “Augment Your Pre-Order” program is included except the early game release. For those who already secured a pre-order, Square Enix and Eidos informs they will handle the changes to the program. “To our faithful fans who’ve already pre-ordered: we will be taking care of everything necessary to ensure that all of the changes to the program will be automatically applied to your purchase.”

Before Square Enix got to the point of post, they wanted to note the original intent of the now dismantled pre-order program. Citing consumer complaints from the lack of choice across regions, Square Enix thought of the program as a solution. “When it was first conceived, we wanted the program to give you more choice about what you received in terms of pre-order incentives – because we’ve seen in the past that when we choose those packages ourselves, and split them across regions, it has caused frustration.” Full post is linked here.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided releases February 23rd on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
