Earlier today, Amazon unveiled Lumberyard, a free-to-use game engine available for developers of all sizes. What went more under the radar, however, was that Amazon Game Studios will be using Lumberyard for its multiple game projects.
The Lumberyard FAQ page briefly mentions the studio:
Q. Is Amazon Game Studios using Lumberyard to build games?
Yes. We can’t wait to show you what we’re working on, but we’ll have to ask you to stay tuned for now.
At the end of the FAQ is a link to the AGS hiring page, which goes into more detail on Amazon’s game development plans outside their current mobile lineup.
“At Amazon Game Studios (AGS), we see gaming becoming the largest entertainment form on Earth,” reads the AGS jobs page. “At AGS, we are developing multiple AAA PC games in our Seattle and Irvine studios that harness the power of AWS and Twitch to create new community-driven game experiences.”
The site also mentions how stacked the team is with experiences industry veterans, name dropping League of Legends, Half Life 2, Left for Dead, Portal, Thief, System Shock 2, Age of Empires, Dawn Of War II, Halo, The Last of Us, Gears of War, The Sims, and Bioshock.
Amazon has been hiring high profile game developers for some time now, but this is the first we’ve heard of the studio’s PC developments since last June, when it was briefly reported that Amazon was seeking experienced developers for an “ambitious” PC game.
