If you’ve been accumulating games on your Nintendo Switch for the past few years and have been desperately seeking a way to organize them on your home screen, you’ll be happy to hear that Nintendo has just announced the ability to create groups of software into folders.
This feature is available on software update 14.0.0 or later when you have more than 12 software titles saved on your Nintendo Switch system.
Up to 100 folders (called “groups” by Nintendo) can be created on a single system, and there can be up to 200 games or software titles per group. You can also give each group a custom name of your choosing.
The same game or software title can be added to multiple groups; for example, you can add The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to a group titled “Zelda Games” as well as a group titled “Favorite Games.”
To create these groups, all you have to do is select “All Software” after you’ve accumulated more than 12 software titles on your home screen, then press the L button to start creating custom folders. You’ll be able to arrange the software titles in any order that you want them displayed, with the first three being featured on the folder icon.
You’ll still need to scroll to “All Software” to be able to view these groups, so they won’t show up on the front of your home screen as you might expect.
The ability to create groups can be done on any console in the Switch family, including the original model, the Switch Lite, and the OLED model.
This update comes five years after the launch of the Nintendo Switch console in 2017. Both the Wii U and the 3DS, the consoles that came right before the Switch, had the ability to create custom folders of games and software titles as well.
