We’ve known about a potential Detective Pikachu game for a while, but it was still a surprise last week when the game was officially announced. Adding on to Pikachu’s already sizeable resume, Detective Pikachu: Birth of a New Duo seems to have a talking Pikachu teaming up with his partner to solve crimes and interrogate witnesses.
Although not a lot is known on the exact details of the game, it just hit the Japanese eShop on February 3. A YouTube user by the name of TiLMENDOMiNATiON, was quickly on top of uploading the game’s opening cinematic. The scene is of course in Japanese and has the gruff sounding Pikachu meeting his new partner, while dealing with some mischievous Aipom.
There’s no word on if the game is coming to North America yet, but we can only hope. Thousands of fans have even signed a petition asking for Danny DeVito to be the English voice of the titular Pokémon hero.
Take a look at the charming scene down below, and let us know what you think of Detective Pikachu. Do you hope the game comes over to the west? Is it a fun new move for the series, or just a weird spinoff?
