Tomb Raider fans will probably be aware of the fact that a Tomb Raider movie is in the works and that Alicia Vikander will play the role of Lara Croft, the badass treasure hunter we’ve known since 1996 when she made her debut. We’ve seen a few pictures and, more recently, a very short teaser trailer, but now the first official full length trailer has been revealed for the new Tomb Raider film.

The trailer is suitably action packed, just as you’d expect from a film adaptation of one of the greatest heroines from video games, and Vikander certainly looks the part. Film adaptations have a history of failing to capture the glory of their game counterparts but no doubt many gamers will be hoping Tomb Raider is the film that finally gets it right.

Vikander certainly seems like a great choice as our lead and she certainly has a lot of acting chops. She played Ava in Ex_Machina and went on to win an Academy Award for her role in The Danish Girl. Several other notable actors have been cast including Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu, Dominic West, Kristen Scott Thomas, and Nick Frost.

Those of you who have played the recent Tomb Raider games may have noticed that some plot elements from the games are present in the trailer. Of course we see plenty of deadly tomb traps, as well weapons associated with Lara such as her bow and arrow and duel pistols, but also the name Trinity is dropped. Rise of the Tomb Raider featured an antagonistic organization called Trinity which Lara had to fight against. It seems this film is somewhat connected to the games.

Tomb Raider is set to be released on March 16 2018.
